The Secret Of Soft Touchable Hands
We use them to greet others, and to help express our thoughts... but often our face steals the spotlight leaving our hands with little attention.
There are some simple tips that you can try to keep the skin on your hands feeling baby smooth. • Unlike your face, your hands need rich heavy creams. Shea butter, Cutemol, and Neutrogena Norwegian formula are some of our favorites. You should apply hand cream after every hand wash.
• Many people who take great care of their face by protecting it from the sun, neglect their hands. Don't! Use sunscreen of at least SPF 15 every morning, and you will keep your hands looking young.
• If you already have age spots on your hands, you may want to try products with glycolic acid, lactic acid, and urea. They will help to keep your hands smooth. If you want to do even more, you can have IPL (Intense Pulse Light) treatments to help remove the age spots.
• Are you using a retinol night cream? If not... you probably should be! After you use it on your face, put some on the back of your hands. This will keep them looking young.
• If your hands become chapped, there are a few things you can do to revive them. One helpful tip is to soak your hands in warm safflower oil for 15-20 minutes. After they are done soaking, pat dry, and use liquid bandaid to cover any fissures. Remember that water, soap, and chemical exposure is the enemy of dry chapped hands - so avoid these as much as possible!
• Another tip for very dry hands is to use Vaseline at night, and cover your hands with cotton gloves. If you do not like the greasy feel of Vaseline, you may prefer neutrogena's norwegian formula.
• Cuticles need moisturisers... not cutting! When your cuticles get dry, you may get hangnails. Try using olive oil, safflower oil, or any other moisturisers that you enjoy.
• To prevent calluses when lifting weights or doing other work with your hands, to wear gloves.
• Use gloves around the house to protect your hands as much as possible. The True Blue gloves are high quality, and a pair should be left by the garden hose, sink, and cleaning supplies - so that you are using them as much as possible.
• If you need to wash your hands often (ie: teachers, nurses, etc) - try to use Purell as much as possible. Only when your hands are visibly soiled should you use soap and water.
• When you do wash your hands, do not use water that is too hot or a soap that is too harsh. If you have grease on your hands from machinery, you may want to use a soap like GoJo, but only use this when you need to - not as a routine. It is too harsh.
