Tips on Staying Healthy
Well, its officially here. Flu season. Although it has appeared to be a mild one so far, there are still lots of colds and stomach flus flying around out there. Make sure this season you are taking the proper precautions to stay healthy and well through the winter. The easiest thing you can do for yourself is wash your hands. Studies show this is the best way to prevent the spread of germs. If you begin to think about all of the door handles and shopping carts and stair railings we all come in contact with each day, and then the number of people who come in contact with the same handles and carts and railings, you begin to realize the reason germs spread so quickly. During flu season, I also clean the door handles with cleaner to kill the germs as well as light switches and table tops.
Another way to stay healthy this season is to boost your immune system. This is the gatekeeper of your body. With a rock solid immune system you are able to fight off the hundreds, even thousands of germs that are floating around. Acupuncture is a fantastic way to keep that immune system rockin. It replenishes the body and balances the energy so that the immune system has less to compete with. Massage Therapy is also a great way to stay healthy. Massage actually increases circulation in the body as well as flushes the lymphatic system, which is a key component to the immune system. If you imagine yourself as a body of water (which you really are!) and think of a pond. Not much movement happening there, right? Stagnation can occur resulting in infection and loss of energy. Now think of a river. Lots of movement! Flowing and clean. Massage gets the body flowing like a river; flushing out any toxins and releasing healing endorphins.
And to really give your immune system some extra oomph, try some essential oils. There are several amazing blends that work very well. This has proven to be a must have item for all of our clients, especially during flu season, traveling and while in large groups of people. And it smells great too!
